Morning and my dosage of daily arguments!
God! I really lost it. And I found a good answer on Quora:
"Who promised you that your parents will understand you?
Who told you that parents in general should understand their children and vice versa?
Is this something you read in a dictionary or Wikipedia under ‘family’ or ‘parents’?
Where did you get it from, this expectation?
Where did we all get it from? Because you’re not alone with this problem.
You didn’t win the lottery when it comes to parents.
It happens. Actually it happens a lot. The chances are probably better than in a regular lottery where you win $$$, but still there is no guarantee.
And most of us (most people in their youth) behave as if it was something we’re entitled to.
Supporting parents. Parents who are your fans. Parents who are excited about the idea of you taking risks. Parents who embrace your uniqueness. Parents who will let you make your own life choices. Parents who won’t threaten that they will disown you should you change the religion. Parents who will let you pick your college / career. Parents who will always understand you. Parents who will always be on the same page with you. Parents who know when to shut up and leave you alone and when not to. Parents who know when to be close, and when to disappear from sight. Parents who know all your needs. Parents who will not feed you crap ideas (and they should know what a crap idea is to you). And so on and so forth.
And that’s the very reason they suffer so much in their lives. Why they need to vent to their friends about their relationship with their parents. Why they need to ask for advice on sites as this one.
And I’m not saying their parents are any better. Vice versa, they expect that their children will be this or that. That their children will not cause problems. That their children will always listen. That their children will always understand them. That their children will not change this religion. That their children will be on the same page when it comes to most views/ opinions. That their children will be happy when they offer them their life advice (and they should take it). That their children will always be grateful. That they children will always be loyal members of their clan. That their children will give them reasons to brag. And so on and so forth.
This is a string of ridiculous expectations on both sides.
Dump those silly expectations and take 100% responsibility for your own life, and for your own happiness. You are unhappy because you let these silly expectations run the show.
Expect less. Even better, expect nothing. Your life will change almost immediately. You will soon learn that those silly expectations were the biggest obstacle on your path to a happy, peaceful life. You won’t be crippled by those unmet expectations and will start enjoying your life".
Anyway, I end up listening to Ghomeishi!!
